Balanced attack leads SHP girls to WBAL lacrosse victory

Allison Carter and Genna Gibbons each scored twice and seven other individuals added a goal as the Sacred Heart Prep girls lacrosse team flummoxed Saint Francis 11-3 in a West Bay Athletic League contest Friday.

Carter also recorded a pair of assists for the Gators (6-3, 5-0), who have beaten the Lancers (3-7, 1-5) twice by a combined score of 27-4 in two matches. 

Saint Francis, which last recorded an overall winning record in 2014, opened the season with wins over Palo Alto and Mountain View and suffered tough losses to Los Gatos and Gunn. 

The Lancers, with a roster of nine freshmen (including Kathryn La Barber, who scored twice) and sophomores, have lost seven of their past eight games. They host Castilleja (3-3-1, 2-2) at 7 p.m. Tuesday. 
The Gators, who play a 4:30 p.m. game Tuesday at Mitty, remain unbeaten against Central Coast Section teams. They lost two one-goal matches to the top two teams from the Marin County League and a four-goal setback to undefeated Colorado Academy.

Sacred Heart Prep, which lost to Menlo School in last year's WBAL championship, last won the league title in 2016, with a win over the Knights.

Ingrid Corrigan, Grace Johnson, Lauren Hagerty, Sasha Bellack, Ellie Noto, Haley Zimits and Kay Showalter all scored for Sacred Heart Prep.

Emma Briger recorded three saves.

In the SCVAL, Palo Alto won its second straight, beating visiting Mountain View 11-10 on Friday.

Boys lacrosse 
Sacred Heart Prep topped visiting Jesuit 10-6 in a nonleague match Friday. Ben Ramsey scored three goals and recorded two assists for the Gators (8-0, 4-0), who travel to play Sacred Heart Cathedral in a West Catholic Athletic match Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Tommy Barnds added two goals and three assists and Larry Hart scored twice. Cody Wiebe had eight saves in the contest.
