PAL baseball: Gators show patience in win over Cap

Palo Alto Online
Parker Isaacson threw a five-hitter, allowing one run, walking two and striking out five, leading the Gators to a 5-1 win over Capuchino. Issacson also collected two of SHP's three hits, including a run-scoring double in the sixth.

There are more dramatic ways to drive in the go-ahead run and Sacred Harte Prep senior shortstop Yianni Gardner will get other opportunities.

Wednesday he happened to be in the wrong place at the right time, taking a ball off his left shoulder with the bases loaded, forcing home the go-ahead run during a fifth-inning rally and helping the Gators earn their third straight Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division victory, a 5-1 decision over visiting Capuchino.

Aidan Macaluso scored the go-ahead run for the Gators.

Parker Isaacson threw a five-hitter, allowing one run, walking two and striking out five in improving to 2-0 in league play. He also collected two of SHP's three hits, including a run-scoring double in the sixth.

Capuchino starter Devin Meyer took a one-hitter into the fifth inning, got the first out and then seemed to lose the strike zone. He wasn't necessarily wild but was just missing all around the zone.

Alex Kim began the parade by exhibiting a great deal of discipline after falling behind 1-2. He laid off three straight pitches to earn a walk and set the tone for the inning.

Aidan Macaluso also walked after falling behind 0-2. Isaacson drove a single to left to load the bases.

Ryan Mo walked on five pitches, Gardner followed and got hit by a pitch and Reece Lindquist walked on four pitches, putting the Gators (7-5-1, 3-2) ahead, 3-1.

Following Isaacson's single, 12 of Meyer's next 13 pitches were out of the zone. He came back to strike out Peter Desler on a full count but then hit Will Moldow with a pitch on a 2-1 delivery, ending his day.

Isaacson gave up three of his hits in the top of the fifth. He allowed one more hit but the runner was erased on a double play.

Sacred Heart Prep travels to play Capuchino at 4 p.m. Friday.
