Sacred Heart Prep finally caught a break and ended its five-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over visiting Aragon in a nonleague baseball game Saturday.
Yianni Gardner, Aidan Macaluso and Ryan Mo combined to throw a six-hitter for the Gators (4-5-1), who have received quality pitching most of the season but had no luck offensively.
SH Prep, which hosts Menlo School at 4 p.m. Wednesday in a PAL contest, turned a pair of hits, an error, a sacrifice fly and a walk into three fifth-inning runs that led to the victory over Aragon (3-2).
Peter Desler and Will Moldow singled to start the go-ahead rally. Teddy Purcell's sacrifice bunt was mishandled, allowing Desler to score and both runners to move up a base.
After an out, Macaluso hit a sacrifice fly for the go-ahead run. Purcell scored on a wild pitch during Parker Isaacson's eventual four-pitch walk.
The Gators added an insurance run in the sixth. Mo walked, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. He eventually scored on a wild pitch.
In the top of the seventh, the Dons loaded the bases on a double, single and walk. With one out, another walk forced in a run. That's when Mo took over, recording a strikeout and a fly out for the save.
Gardner allowed a run on three hits during his 5 1/3 innings of work. He walked three and struck out three.
