Boys & Girls Soccer both advance in CCS Tournament

After defeating South San Francisco 1-0, the Boys will play Monterey on Wednesday, while the Girls will play Seaside following their 5-0 victory over Seaside.

Kevin Box scored in the first half, getting an assist from Brian Tinsley, and Sacred Heart Prep opened the Central Coast Section Division I boys soccer tournament with a 1-0 victory over visiting South San Francisco on Saturday.

Jacob Anderson recorded the shutout for the Gators (18-0-2), who meet Monterey (19-2) in Wednesday's semifinals at a place and time to be determined.

Sacred Heart Prep recorded its 14th shutout of the season and have given up nine goals, five in the first two games, all year. The Gators have outscored opponents 76-9.

Monterey and SHP share two common opponents in Palma and Carmel. The Toreadores beat Palma twice, 2-0 and 4-0, and beat Carmel, 6-1. Sacred Heart Prep tied Palma 0-0 and beat Carmel 6-1.

Monterey has recorded 12 shutouts and outscored opponents by a 68-15 margin.

Girls Soccer
Sacred Heart Prep (10-5-6) took care of visiting Alisal, 5-0, in a Division IV opener and will advance into Wednesday's semifinals against Seaside, which advanced on penalty kicks over No. 2 seed Alvarez, at a place and time to be determined.

Freshman Ellie Brew opened the scoring for the Gators, putting the ball in the net in the first minute. That was followed 11 minutes later with a goal from Megan Tinsley, with an assist from Juliana Rosen.

Rosen scored, with an assist from Elle Lessing, just before halftime to make it 3-0.

The Tinsley-Rosen combo made an encore early in the second half and Rosen scored again, with an assist from Caitlyn Carcione to finish things off.
