School Programs

Through programs and opportunities to support student, faculty, and staff on their faith journeys, the SHS Campus Ministry team seeks to enhance the spiritual life of the entire Sacred Heart community. Students from all faith traditions are welcome and encouraged to actively participate in a variety of activities, retreats, and opportunities to explore, enrich, and engage their relationship with God, self, and others.

  • Daily Prayers

Our Student Council, the Commissioners of Religious Affairs, share daily with our faith community morning prayers over the PA system.
  • Come to the Quiet

Kathleen Dolan, RSCJ opens the Lane Family Chapel to the SHS parent community every Wednesday morning at 7:45AM, when school is in session, to pray using the reflection she has prepared for that day.
  • Eucharistic Liturgies

The entire SHS community comes together at the beginning of the school year to celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit, and at the end of the academic year for the feast of our founder, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat. A popular weekend Family Mass is held every few months, tied to either a service or religious theme, attracting all members of the community in worship and liturgical participation.

Throughout the school year, there are a number of LMS prayer services and Eucharistic liturgies--such as the Feast of Mater and Feast of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne--in which students participate by being readers, gift bearers, musicians, choral singers, and altar servers. Class participation is greatly appreciated, showing the interest and importance of being part of the spiritual growth of both the individual and our Sacred Heart community.
  • Retreats

Our middle school, grades sixth through eighth, participate in one- day themed retreats:
    • Sixth Grade: What Does It Mean to Be A Child of the Sacred Heart?
    • Seventh Grade: Who Is Christ For You? Where Do You Find Christ? How Do You Share Your Faith With Others?
    • Eighth Grade: Time of Transition and Change
      • Recognizing Your Gifts
      • Gratitude For Time Together As A Class
      • Identify that Which Can Support You
      • Qualities You Want to Take with You as You
      • Prepare for the Next Stage of Your Educational Journey
  • Co-Sponsored Events

LMS Campus Ministry works with the LMS Global Citizenship, Service Learning, and EJME Coordinator to enhance the spiritual life of the school through service, and various activities.

SHP Programs

List of 5 items.

  • Daily Prayers

Students and faculty share prayers from Catholic and other faith traditions during the first period of each academic day.
  • Espacio

The community comes together regularly for prayer and spiritual reflection led by students and faculty. This "space" in our often-hectic lives provides a time to appreciate and learn about and from each other. In a wide variety of ways, Espacio gives us the opportunity to connect our lives to something deeper--to open ourselves to the transforming power of God. It is at these gatherings that we observe liturgical seasons and special Sacred Heart feast days.
  • Eucharistic Liturgies

The entire Sacred Heart Schools community comes together for Eucharist at the beginning of the school year to celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit and at the end for the feast of our founder, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat. A popular weekend Family Mass is held every few months, tied to either a service or religious theme, attracting all members of the community in worship and liturgical participation.

Throughout the school year, there are Eucharistic liturgies in the high school, including individual class Masses. Students are encouraged to participate as lectors, musicians, Eucharistic ministers, and ushers. The Ambassador program in the office of Prayer and Worship provides leadership opportunities for students especially interested in playing an active role in the spiritual life of the school.
  • Retreats & Kairos

All grade levels take part in the retreat program. Freshmen and Sophomores participate in one-day retreats that are designed to develop community and faith-sharing. Juniors are offered the opportunity to participate in overnight retreats that invite them to a deeper level of community-building, self-reflection, and prayer. Seniors have the opportunity to attend Kairos, a two-night overnight retreat that many graduates consider a culminating experience of their spiritual journey at SHP. The Retreat Ambassador program trains students to take on leadership in retreats as early as their sophomore year and provides a community of growth and support for those students most passionate about retreats.
  • Co-sponsored Events

Campus Ministry works in conjunction with EJME, Service Learning, and other groups to enhance the spiritual life of the school.
