Annually on the first weekend in October, the entire SHS alumni body is invited to a special event on campus--a traditional Oktoberfest, complete with themed food, cold brews, good music, and great fun. As part of the night's brief program, select alumni may be recognized with the Spirit of Mater Award, the St. Joseph's School Henry Schimpf Award, or be inducted into the SHS Athletic Hall of Fame.
Traditionally held on the high school's Commencement day, alumni "sponsors" take part in a formal ceremony held in Harman Family Assembly Hall, signifying the graduating seniors' changing relationship with the school from students to alumni. In the ceremony, the alumni president offers brief remarks, welcoming the class into the alumni association. Each new graduate is then invited forward to receive a token: the SHS alumni pin. Following a brief reception, alumni sponsors join family and friends at the Commencement exercises.
Near the close of the school year, seniors are encouraged to invite a particular alumnus/a to become his/her sponsor for the pinning ceremony. However, in the event that a student does not already have an alumnus/a in mind, the alumni relations manager will facilitate a match.
Those interested in participating in the pinning ceremony should contact the alumni office by emailing email@example.com.
Graduates from Convent of the Sacred Heart (CSH), Sacred Heart Prep (SHP), St. Joseph's School (SJS), and all other previous or current incarnations of the school are encouraged to reconnect with classsmates and friends at any of our alumni events throughout the year, or at a class-sponosored/planned activity off campus.
Those classes celebrating milestone reunion years--10, 25, 50+--may opt for a class gathering on campus during the Alumni Oktoberfest. Classes entering the milestone reunion year are encouraged to contact the SHS alumni office as early as possible to arrange on-site support for an event, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Graduates of Convent of the Sacred Heart who are celebrating their 50th class reunion year are invited to partake in a special "Golden Diploma Ceremony," held in the afternoon of the annual Alumni Oktoberfest. In a formal ceremony echoing their own commencement, participants individually receive a certificate acknowledging this achievement, presented by Director of Schools Richard A. Dioli, and presided over by former Director of Schools Nancy Morris, RSCJ.
Each year, the Parents of Alumni (PALs) are invited to a special cocktail party on campus, in conjunction with the annual Holiday Boutique. Alumni are welcome to attend this event, along with their parents.
