Academic Resources

SHS houses two comprehensive libraries--one for the students, faculty, staff of the LMS and PSK, and one for those at SHP. Library staff seek to promote a lifelong love of learning and reading through a variety of diverse resources and mediums. Beginning with basic information literacy instruction, the librarians encourage intellectual curiosity and critical thinking, which enhance the array of complex skills students need to live, learn, and work successfully in a global community.

  • Lucas Family Library (SHP)

The Lucas Family Library offers a program of instruction in academic research and information skills that is well integrated into the curriculum for grades 9-12 and is open before and after school. All online services are accessible from home using a password.  The program emphasizes the development of higher-order thinking skills that aid the process of locating, evaluating, and using information in an academic context. The librarians work closely with teachers to insure that the program is cohesive and consistent, gradually introducing students to resources and skills in a step-by-step process.  The broad goals of the program are to foster lifelong learning and to prepare the student for the use of a college or university research library.

The Lucas Family Library has a collection of over 20,000 books accessible via an online catalog, over 130,000 ebooks, over 50 subscription databases, and 36 computers for student use.
