Academic Resources

SHS houses two comprehensive libraries--one for the students, faculty, staff of the LMS and PSK, and one for those at SHP. Library staff seek to promote a lifelong love of learning and reading through a variety of diverse resources and mediums. Beginning with basic information literacy instruction, the librarians encourage intellectual curiosity and critical thinking, which enhance the array of complex skills students need to live, learn, and work successfully in a global community.

  • Stevens Library (LMS)

Centrally located on the LMS campus,  Stevens Library has a large selection of books and weekly offers scheduled classes for read-aloud /storytelling sessions and lessons in library and research skills. The librarian works with faculty to complement classroom activities and studies in order to enhance the intellectual opportunities and academic resources available to each student.  Stevens Library is open to students for study, research, homework, and reading before school, during school under teacher direction and librarian availability, and to Middle School students after school.

Built in 2012, Stevens Library is Net Zero Energy Building, certified by the International Living Future Institute and targeted to be LEED® Platinum. The LMS campus’ real-time energy production and consumption appears on an interactive screen, located in the library and can be tracked online via the LMS Campus’ energy efficiency building dashboard.
  • Lucas Family Library (SHP)

The Lucas Family Library welcomes all learners, and teaches information literacy for grades 9-12 via a coherent program that emphasizes the development of the higher-order thinking skills essential to the process of locating, evaluating, and ethically using information within an academic context. The librarians work collaboratively with faculty to ensure that information resources and concrete research skills for students are introduced, practiced and refined in a cohesive process that builds across the four-year curriculum. The over-arching goals of the library are to foster a lifelong joy in learning and reading, and to prepare each student to comfortably enter a college or university research library.

The Lucas Family Library is open from 7:30am to 4pm daily, except Wednesdays, when its hours are 9:10am-4pm. With a collection of 17,000 print books, 130,000 e-books, 50 subscription databases, and 36 desktop computers for student use, the library offers a comprehensive range of the resources important for student success. Its online resources, including databases and e-books, are accessible both on campus and also from home, via password.
