Daily Bulletin for For Friday, March 6
Friday, March 06, 2015
Friday, March 6, 2015 Cycle Day 3-EMFM Schedule During the season of Lent, each person determines how he or she will personally live out the ancient Lenten pillars of prayer, fasting, and caring for the poor. In addition to these personal practices, we also are called to a communal practice of abstaining from meat on the Fridays of Lent. Real fasting isn't just about restricting food choices but about being in solidarity with the poor and hungry. And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 13:34 Today's Lenten idea: Visit the farm and pet a goat or bunny. CAMPUS EVENTS: Due to on-going PGE work in the area there will be a power outage on campus this weekend beginning 5:00 PM on Saturday. Schoology will not be available until power is restored sometime on Sunday. Make note of assignments in advance! To see or not to see? Experience Shakespeare's longest play performed in fifteen frenetic minutes. See his greatest tragedy turned into a farcical comedy. See Peter Yang as the ghost, Matthew Murphy as the mad Ophelia, David Lynch as the conniving Claudius, and Aidan Williams, the greatest thespian ever to grace the hallowed halls of Sacred Heart, as Hamlet. Fitz's Brit Lit class will perform Tom Stoppard's The Fifteen-Minute Hamlet on Wed, March 11, at 12:05 and again at 1:00 in the Heritage Room. Submit to the Global Magazine: If you have ever traveled, gone on an immersion trip, or participated in the exchange program, share your experience with the school though the Global Magazine! The only requirements are a few photos and a short reflection. This is open to teachers and students. Email sdemo16@shschools.org or sign up here http://goo.gl/forms/6i7vZF3aNi to contribute! New additional recreational lift times for the month of March. Beginning Thursday, March 5th, the Fieldhouse weight room will be open for recreational lifts Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:45pm to 7pm. CAMPUS MINISTRY: FIRST FRIDAY PEACE PRAYER: Please pray with us in the chapel on Friday for the first 15 minutes of lunch. The world needs our prayers. The prayer will be student led. The three pillars of Lent are prayer, fasting, and giving. Giving up something for Lent is a form of fasting. We can deprive ourselves of some small pleasure or indulgence and offer that sacrifice up to God. Giving up meat on the Fridays of Lent is a spiritual practice that goes back to the earliest days of the Church. As a Catholic school we observe this Lenten tradition. SERVICE LEARNING: Sign up for Campus Cares with Ms. Patti or Mr. Quattlebaum. You earn on-campus service hours, which is a graduation requirement; AND you help keep our beautiful campus clean. CLUB MEETINGS: BBQ CLUB! Come out and enjoy free food with the BBQ Club Friday after school in front of the practice pavilion. . In collaboration with Epicurian's chefs Marc, we will be serving wild elk, wild goose, wild boar, and baby back ribs, and handing out recipes for everything. we will also have vegetables supplied by the farm and drinks as well. All are welcome! Hope to see you there. The Poker Club will be meeting for the next three Mondays on March 9, March 16, and March 23 in the Heritage Room from 2:30 to 3:15! Come join us to have fun, eat candy, and win some official Poker Sunglasses which we will be handing out to the victors of last meeting's competition!
