Larsen Weigle scored six times, on seven shots, to pace SH Prep. JC Marco recorded 14 saves. Jackson Enright and Alex Tsotadze each added a pair.
The Matadors (11-7) held a 4-3 edge halfway through the second quarter when the Gators began to pull away. Enright scored to spark a 4-2 run and give SH Prep a 7-6 halftime lead.
Weigle scored three straight goals to put the Gators ahead, 11-7, with just under three minutes to play.
Huntington Beach beat the Gators, 9-5, in the semifinals.
Menlo placed seventh in the tournament after beating Cathedral Catholic, 9-4. The Knights (20-2) lost to Loyola, 14-13, earlier in the day.
Scott Little scored three times to lead Menlo past the Dons. The Knights never trailed in the contest, using a 3-1 second quarter to open a 5-2 edge by halftime. Sam Untrecht and Niko Bhatia each netted a pair of goals.
Against Loyola, Ben Wagner gave Menlo an 11-9 advantage early in the fourth period. The Cubs rallied with four straight scores to open a 13-11 edge.
Untrecht, who had five goals in the contest, got one back with just under a minute, but Marko Vavic, with an assist from Stefan Vavic, scored with 35 seconds left. The Vavic brothers are the sons of USC water polo coach Johan Vavic.
Miller Geschke scored with 23 seconds left to make it 14-13. Bhatia added three goals and Little added a pair.
This was the best finish for Northern California schools in the North-South tournament, with Menlo earning seventh and Sacred Heard and Miramonte at third and fourth.
Menlo School has finished as high as third in the tournament (in 2006) but has not been top-8 for 4 years.
Untrecht led the team in steals with 11. Wagner led Menlo in assists with eight and Tiago Bonchristiano continued to establish himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the country, recording 51 saves in four games.
Next week, Menlo looks to complete their undefeated record in league hosting Half Moon Bay, and then plays host to a top San Diego contender, Coronado, in their annual game together. Menlo leads that match up 6-3.
Sacred Heart Prep finished WCAL play undefeated earlier in the week.
Gunn lost to Laguna Beach, 14-9, in the first game Saturday and then rebounded to knock off St. Francis, 11-10, and finish 15th in the tournament.
Quinn Hamilton scored four goals in the come-from-behind win over the Lancers. Aaron Babian added three goals.
Against Laguna Beach, Hamilton scored with 2:12 remaining in the third period to tie the game at 7, but the Breakers scored six of the next seven goals to take control. Lucas Batista's goal late in the third period brought the Titans within 10-8 entering the final period.
Jack Mallery led Gunn (12-4) with three goals. Hamilton and Babian each added a pair. Patrick Zhao also scored.
Maddy Johnston scored six goals on the day, four in the first game. Layla Waters scored four times, three in the second game.

Palo Alto (10-12) won twice to place 21st in the 32-team tournament. The Vikings opened with a 5-4 win over Rocklin and then beat Merced, 6-5, at Ripon High.
