Clark and Sheldon are looking to win gold in first Olympic Games
Big wins continue to come for Sacred Heart alumnae KK Clark (SHP ’08) of USA Water Polo and Denise Sheldon (SJS ’93, SHP ’97) of USA Volleyball at the Rio Olympic Games.
Clark, USA Water Polo Tops China
In the pool, Team USA jumped out early versus China and never looked back, en route to a 12-4 victory on Aug. 11. After two games in preliminary play, the U.S. remains undefeated and has outscored opponents 23-8 in its gold medal title defense.
Clark served as a key reserve, seeing action throughout the game and had a shot on goal.
The Americans, who lead Group B, will conclude pool play with Hungary (1-1) on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 9 a.m. PT on NBC. Please note, the game will be on delay for viewers in the Pacific Time Zone.
On a quest for its first gold medal, USA Women’s Volleyball is now in sole leadership of Pool B behind a 3-1 victory over Serbia on Aug. 10. Team manager Sheldon and Team USA improved to 3-0 in the group stage and are the first squad to advance to the quarterfinal round.
Before reaching the knockout stage, the U.S. will face Italy (0-3) on Friday, Aug. 12 at 11 a.m. PT and China (2-1) on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. PT to wrap up the preliminary round.
Sacred Heart is well represented in Rio this summer, as nine alumane across the international network are representing four countries in eight different sports. Among the world’s best competition, the Sacred Heart contingent has won six medals thus far.
