Applying to Sacred Heart Preparatory School

Thank you for your interest in Sacred Heart Preparatory School. Below, you will find an outline of our admissions process along with helpful links to the forms, event registration pages and resources you will need to learn more about our school and successfully complete your application.

We hope our admissions materials, events and process will give you a sense of what Sacred Heart Schools offers its students and their families. We know applications can be stressful but we are here to help and are excited to come to know your family through our admissions process. We look forward to welcoming you to our campus soon!

Please plan to attend one of these events to learn about our programs and become more familiar with the SHS community. No reservations required.

Schedule a Campus Visit (formally Shadow Visit)

The campus visit may be scheduled prior to the submission of the online application; however the online application and fee must be received the Thursday prior to the actual campus visit. Transfer applicants should not schedule a campus visit. Select applicants to these grades will be contacted in March 2014 to arrange for a campus visit and interview with an Admissions officer should space be available.

All applications to Sacred Heart Schools are completed and submitted electronically through InfoSnap.

 

 

Submit the Student Statement

The High School Student Statement offers applicants a chance to share their writing and more about themselves with Sacred Heart Schools. 

The completed statement must be submitted as an electronic PDF to admissionforms@shschools.org by January 10, 2014. Read the directions carefully on the form to be sure the form is submitted correctly.   

Arrange Supplemental Documents

All applicants to SHS High School must submit an English Teacher, Math Teacher, Principal Recommendation Form, and a complete transcript covering at least two full academic years and the results of any standardized testing administered by the school. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all required supporting documents are submitted to Sacred Heart Schools by February 3, 2014.

Although the forms state that the recommendations can be mailed hard copy to Sacred Heart, we require all supplemental documents to be submitted as electronic PDF files to admissionforms@shschools.org.    Hard copies and/or copies sent from families cannot be accepted. Please complete your portion of each form and then forward to the appropriate person at the applicant's current school.

Register for the High School Placement Test (HSPT) and Writing Sample

All 9th grade applicants must register for the High School Placement Test (HSPT) administered by the Scholastic Testing Service (STS). Registration for the test is included within our online application. The HSPT is administered by all of the Catholic high schools in the Bay Area as well as some other independent schools. If the applicant would like to take the exam at SHP, please register within the online application. If the applicant chooses to take the exam at another school, please ensure the results are forwarded to Sacred Heart Prep as quickly as possible. Applications will not be reviewed without the results of the HSPT.

SHP will offer the HSPT on January 11, 2014 and January 18, 2014. If the applicant takes the HSPT at Sacred Heart the test results will be mailed on March 13, 2014 with decision letters.

If the applicant takes the HSPT at SHP or one of the San Francisco Archdiocese Schools, the writing sample will be included. If the applicant tests at any other location SHP will contact the applicant to schedule a time to complete a writing sample at SHP.

If the applicant would like to request extended time on the High School Placement Test (HSPT), please complete the Extended Time Request form and email all documentation to the Admission Office by November 15, 2013.

Schedule a Student Interview

This interview is for the student applicant only. Student applicants are required to schedule a personal interview with an Admission Office representative. Interviews will be held on February 1, 2014 and will last approximately 15 mintues.

Learn about Financial Assistance

We are committed to making a Sacred Heart education affordable for all academically qualified students regardless of financial circumstance.

Sacred Heart Schools offers assistance to qualified students in the form of financial aid, based upon demonstrated financial need.

To request financial assistance, families must submit a F.A.S.T. application by January 31, 2014 and a copy of their 2013 Tax Returns by February 14, 2014. To learn more please visit our Tuition & Financial Assistance Page.

Relocating and Applying from Afar

Sacred Heart Schools welcomes families from all over the country and globe to our admissions process and understands the complexities that come with relocations.

Relocating applicants should contact the Admissions Office as soon as possible to learn about how to apply to Sacred Heart Schools from outside the local Northern California area. Please note Sacred Heart Schools does not admit any candidate without a physical visit to the campus and does not conduct interviews via video or teleconference. In particular, we encourage families facing relocations to contact us well in advance of any visit to our area to ensure we can accommodate a visit on the preferred date. To that end, we highly recommend contacting the Admissions Office at least one month prior to any potential visit.

Transfers

Grade 9 is the natural entry point to SHP.  As such, admission to grades 10 and 11 is dependent upon available space and attrition.  Please note we may only assess and interview candidates applying to grades in which we anticipate openings. 

Candidates interested in grades 10 and 11 should submit the following forms. Read the directions carefully on the forms to be sure each form is submitted correctly.   

All supplemental documents and test results are required by February 3, 2014. Transfer applicants should not schedule a campus visit or interview. The Admissions Office will contact select candidates in early March 2014 with information on completing the application process if we anticipate openings.    Admission decisions will be emailed to transfer applicants on March 14, 2014.

Manage the Application Process

Sacred Heart provides an admissions tracker so families can monitor the status of their application to the school. Typically the admissions tracker is updated once per week.

 Sacred Heart provides a printable checklist so families can keep track of the admissions process in hard copy.
