Parent Programs
Building of community as a Christian value is one of the five Goals and Criteria that give purpose to the Schools’ objectives, a framework for our educational philosophy, and inspiration for all that is accomplished on a daily basis at Sacred Heart Schools.
An important aspect of community at Sacred Heart Schools (SHS) is the role parents play in partnering with faculty and staff to provide the best educational experience for our students. Parent involvement is highly valued and encouraged at Sacred Heart Schools to participate in school activities and to support the educational experience of fostering the development of the whole child.
The Parents’ Associations at SHS is a vital link between the parents and the Schools to encourage communication and foster community among the parents, students, faculty and staff. There are two Parents’ Association organizations on the SHS campus, one for the Sacred Heart Preparatory parents (grades 9 – 12), and another for Sacred Heart Schools’ preschool through middle school parents (grades P – 8). Both organizations offer a variety of events throughout the year to support the students and the entire school community.
Events and fundraisers: Events hosted by the two Parents’ Association includes the annual Christmas holiday boutique, gingerbread house workshop, senior fashion show, parent education events, parent/child community service days, and many other community gathering opportunities throughout the school year.
Booster Clubs: Parents’ Association organizes two Booster Clubs to support the athletic programs at SHP and SHS Middle School.
Parent Education: Both Parents’ Associations are members of Common Ground, www.commongroundspeakerseries.org, a coalition of Bay Area schools that have joined together to provide parent education to their communities. The coalition provides opportunities for parents to learn from experts in the fields of education and parenting, to share ideas with other parents, and to support each other’s efforts to enrich the our school communities.

Parent Spirituality: The Parent Associations of both schools come together to form one committee for the various activities and programs that involve the Catholic Christian identity of SHS. This committee works closely with Sr. Martha Roughan, the Director of Formation to Mission. The Office of Formation to Mission strives to enhance and encourage the spiritual life of the entire community. There are both regular and periodic programs designed to nourish and support the Christian life. Dr. Sally Vance-Trembath works directly with the committee on both as a member of the SHS staff.
